Cărticica asta m-a dus cu gândul la Ion Creangă și Amintirile lui din copilărie. Poate nu e la fel de haioasă și nu povestește atâtea năzdrăvănii. Reînvie însă amintiri frumoase provenite dintr-o copilărie fericită trăită undeva într-un sat pe nume Depānama de undeva din Sri Lanka.

Autoarea cărții e medic și a ales să-și părăsească țara pentru a profesa în America. Încearcă totuși să-și povestească sieși și lumii întregi întâmplări și obiceiuri ce poate au dispărut între timp despre un loc și timp prețios pentru fiercare dintre noi, copilăria.

The story of how Depaānama got its name has been lost within its centuries-old history, but the two syllables making up the word Depānama mean “At your feet I pay homage.” To do justice to its name, my collection pays homage to my cherished village and its memorable inhabitants.

My memories have left me with an aching nostalgia for a simpler time and place. These are stories of that time and place.
